Coming from Cisco ASA or Palo Alto? Good. The FortiGate way of thinking about policies and NAT is different, and this course names those differences instead of leaving you to trip over them.
What do FortiGate engineers earn? Entry-level roles start around $85K to $95K. Mid-career FortiGate administrators sit at $110K to $125K. Senior FortiGate architects and consultants reach $140K and above.
Prerequisites are light. You’ll want basic networking knowledge: TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, and what a firewall does. Prior FortiGate experience helps but isn’t needed, because the course starts at FortiGate fundamentals.
After NSE 4, the natural next step is NSE 5 in FortiManager or FortiAnalyzer. Your FortiGate foundation carries into every one of them.

Build your foundation with FortiGate architecture, initial configuration, and the Fortinet Security Fabric. Master GUI and CLI navigation, system settings, and administrative access. This phase covers the deployment concepts tested in the Fortinet NSE4 exam.
Deep dive into firewall policy configuration, NAT modes, and traffic shaping. Implement user authentication using local users, LDAP, RADIUS, and Fortinet Single Sign-On (FSSO). Firewall policies are heavily weighted in the NSE4 Fortinet certification exam.
Master UTM security features including antivirus, web filtering, DNS filtering, application control, and IPS. Configure SSL/SSH deep inspection and certificate management. Security profiles are core to the Fortinet exam NSE4.
Implement IPsec VPN for site-to-site connectivity and SSL VPN for remote access. Configure ZTNA, routing protocols, and high availability (FGCP). VPN configuration is extensively tested in the Fortinet NSE4 exam.
